Aurie is building a reusable no-touch catheter system to help intermittent catheter users avoid urinary tract infections.
There are roughly 600,000 individuals in the US who need to use 4-6 intermittent catheters a day to urinate. All of the products today are single-use, and the standard catheters that 70% of the overall market gets coverage for cause infections at a 50% annual rate, with most catheter users experiencing 1-2 UTIs per year. These UTIs worsen over time and are a leading cause of death for people living with spinal cord injuries. There are safer "no-touch" catheters on the market that reduce UTIs by 30%, but because they cost 4x standard catheters, less than 5% of people get coverage for them.
We are building a reusable no-touch intermittent catheter system that allows us to increase access to potentially life-saving no-touch catheters. Our system consists of: a reusable no-touch catheter; a portable catheter cleaning unit that automatically cleans, disinfects, and lubricates catheters between uses; and pre-packaged cleaning supplies. With our reusable system, we can provide no-touch technologies proven to reduce UTIs by 30% at the same price point as standard catheters.
