The Problem

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 65 million worldwide use a wheelchair on a daily basis. Additionally, 19.9 million individuals have difficulty with motor skills such as lifting or grasping. This impacts the individual's ability to hit the ADA button by the door in the first place. They are then tasked with getting to and through the door in the short window of time before the door closes on them. This issue does not stop with those who utilize wheelchairs or individuals with motor issues. This issue is faced by those with crutches, scooters, walkers, canes, etc. Additionally, many businesses do not even have the necessary ADA accommodations of button-operated doors. This may be due to the high cost of $3,000-$6,000 for each door. This space has not seen the necessary updates and innovation that it deserves. This community is overdue for a solution.

The Solution

The We Hear You® Push™ device, and its soon-to-be app, addresses the need for enhanced accessibility. Through radio frequencies and Bluetooth technology, the Push™ device empowers users to effortlessly open doors from a distance of up to 20 feet from the comfort of a wheelchair or other mobility device, offering unparalleled independence and mobility. It does not stop here. The Push™ device has attachment components that allows it to be attached to wheelchairs, crutches, etc, clipped to a keychain, or worn as a lanyard. Additionally, the Hero Door Opener, an upcoming portable ADA door opener, builds upon the success of the Push™ device. Its affordability compared to traditional ADA door systems makes it a compelling choice for businesses seeking accessible solutions. By revolutionizing accessibility, the Hero Door Opener not only enhances convenience but also fosters inclusivity, enriching the lives of individuals facing diverse mobility challenges.

And what we do is open doors.

Doors to opportunity,

Doors to freedom

And yes - the literal physical doors we walk through everyday.

Bethanie Couri

You see we identified a problem - accessible, automatic doors are not actually accessible. They aren’t financially accessible, logistically accessible, or physically accessible. They aren’t financially accessible to business owners who want to install them, costing between $5,000 and $10,000. They aren’t logistically accessible for the large percentage of buildings not conducive to hardwiring, such as historic buildings. And the buttons themselves aren’t often physically accessible to users who really need them. They are usually placed far away from doors or too close to doors to make it feasible for individuals to get through it before it closes.

It is for these reasons that we estimate 90% of the 42 billion doors in public spaces are not actually accessible at the level that is needed. This means that the market has not created a sufficient solution for the 1.5 billion people globally who require accessibility and it has left these individuals facing a closed door. Until now.

Jamal Stevenson

So we developed two ways to help businesses become more accessible.

The first way is our Hero Door Opener, which removes the step of hardwiring a door to make it automatic, by plugging into a nearby outlet, simplifying installation time to only a few minutes and lowering costs by almost 70%.

The second is the Push Receiver, a bluetooth powered device that retrofits into existing automatic doors to allow them to be opened from up to 20 feet away.   When either solution is installed, we provide a few ways to use it - a physical Push Fob with versatile attachments, our Push App, and we redesigned the original wall button to make it moveable to fit diverse needs.

Our team is based in St. Louis, Mo, a city known as the gateway to the Midwest and a region  that’s already telling us they want to open more doors to more people. To date, we’ve already installed our products in stadiums and businesses across the city and have pending pre-orders with hospitals, universities, and assisted living facilities. Excitingly, we’ve landed an exclusivity contract for 50 locations across the US with opportunities for more corporate partnerships. Even better, we’re planning on releasing a feature for our users to be able to report non-compliant doors, meaning that we will turn our customers into our sales force to drive adoption.

Jamal Stevenson

You would think the door industry would focus on accessibility, but consolidation among the top three U.S. door manufacturers has slowed innovation. Meanwhile, the automatic door market is growing, with a projected 6.7% annual growth rate over the next 8 years and a current value of $22 billion. This shows the industry is ready for change. Our technology is designed to give people independence by making doors accessible to everyone.
